Why did I want a Charity Partner?
Charity and giving back are at the core of what I do and since I started teaching (our Kinga Krupa Music family), I have always felt an obligation to connect with our wider Queenstown community in different ways of giving, particularly those vulnerable members.
Having a Charity Partner enables me to dedicate all my fundraising and create awareness for the chosen partner for a full year, to make a real difference for them. I plan to continue this year with live music concerts with our students, speaking and presentation opportunities and various other community events throughout the year which will all be in aid of our Alzheimer’s Otago.
As a teacher who works primarily with children and teenagers, I do feel the responsibility to be a role model for these students and to help develop their understanding of the world around them. I believe that providing them with the opportunities to give and to appreciate the joy of helping others will be greatly beneficial to them through their lives.
Why Alzheimer's Otago?
There were many reasons for choosing Alzheimer’s Otago as our Charity Partner for this year.
We have always tried to connect our students with the elderly members of our wider community, notably at the Lake Wakatipu Bupa Care Home where we have performed on several occasions, perhaps most memorably at Christmas time where our young students interacted with the residents throughout a beautiful afternoon. It is my belief that these types of events are a win-win situation for everyone involved and brings a lot of joy to everyone.
Over the past few months, I have got to see first-hand the work that the staff at Alzheimer’s Otago do and having spent some time getting to know some of the staff, it is my belief that this charity is a very well run, local, ethically, and socially responsible organisation that does the best it can with the resources available to it to make a big difference to the lives of the people it supports and helps.
On a personal note, close members of my family have been directly affected by dementia, so this is very close to my heart. I wish to do my small part to help in the best way I can, and I believe that through raising the awareness in my students and providing the opportunity to fundraise together, we can support Alzheimer’s Otago to do the work they do every day in our community. These are the main reasons why I am delighted to have Alzheimer’s Otago as our Charity Partner.
